The film, titled, simply F1, is co-produced by seven times world Grand Prix champion Lewis Hamilton. Pitt ,60, stars as a former driver who returns to Formula 1, alongside Damson Idris as his teammate at fictional team APXGP. The feature is being shot during actual Grand Prix weekends as the team competes against the titans of the sport.  The star-studded cast also includes Irish actress Kerry Condon who features as the team’s car designer. The team owner is played by Javier Bardem. A brief opening scene of the teaser trailer sees Pitt’s character  Sonny Hayes talking to Condon. He says:” Okay, Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston, now McLaren all have us beat on the straights. “Our shot is battling in the turns. “We need to build our car for combat.” Condon’s character replies: “How am I supposed to make that safe?” Pitt replies: “Who said anything about safe?” Picture supplied by JLPPA

Dubbed "the greatest that never was’ , 61-year-old Pitt’s character Sonny Hayes was hailed Formula 1's most promising driver of the 1990s. Then he suffered an accident on the track that nearly ended his career. The new film, set 30 years later, he’s a racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes played by Javier Bardem, 56, owner of a struggling F1 team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He’ll drive alongside Joshua Pearce played by British actor Damson Idris, 33, the team's hotshot rookie. The star-studded cast also includes Irish actress Kerry Condon ,42, who features as the team’s car designer. According to the movie’s blurb, “Sonny’s past catches up with him and he finds that in F1, your teammate is your fiercest competition—and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.” The film, titled, simply F1, is co-produced by seven times world Grand Prix champion Lewis Hamilton and is due to open in July.
