A trained duck-herd of approximately 1000 Indian Runner ducks pass the manor house, on their way to the vineyards, at Vergenoegd wine estate on June 3, 2016 near Stellenbosch. The ducks eat snails and other pests which threaten the grapevines, allowing the farm to avoid using toxic pesticides, and they also fertilise the ground with their droppings. The ducks sleep in an enclosed pen, and are herded out to the vineyards in the day, then for a swim in the dam, and then back to their pen in the late afternoon.,Image: 289704756, License: Rights-managed, Restrictions: , Model Release: no, Credit line: Profimedia
Duck parade
- (PICTURED: The ducks parading through the winery) - When it comes to making wine this army of farmers are only too happy to duck in. The feathered farmers can be seen marching through Vergenoegd Wine Estate, as they make their way to work. The 800-strong team help create some of South Africas finest wine at the vineyard in Western Cape. The Indian Runner ducks have become something of a tourist attraction as they parade through the estate twice daily, once at 9.45am and again at 3.30pm. These images and video were taken by photographer David Badenhorst on a recent trip to the winery. .,Image: 281655537, License: Rights-managed, Restrictions: It is not permitted to use or publish this image in a way which does not reflect a fair and true representation of the original context or in a manner which might be defamatory to any person or body or which is likely to bring the image Caters News or its licensees into disrepute., Model Release: no, Credit line: Profimedia
