The French Canadian mother-of-two , 56, gives what is described as “ a raw and honest behind-the-scenes look “ at her struggles. She has stiff person syndrome , referred to as SP, a debilitating condition that was detected in 2022. It is an extremely rare autoimmune neurological disorder affecting an estimated 8,000 people worldwide, causes muscle spasms and stiffness and can cause a loss of mobility. The film, called I Am: Celine Dion, is to be shown on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming channel. A spokesperson said the film serves “as a love letter to her fans, this inspirational documentary highlights the music that has guided her life while also showcasing the resilience of the human spirit.” The trailer intersperses clips of Celine as she is now, facing up to the condition, splice with packed house concerts from the start of her career and then through her rise to superstardom.
