Cazuri celebre in istoria moderna
* 1977 – A fost masina Renault legala? O gaura depistata in regulamentul tehnic din 1977 a permis echipei Renault sa foloseasca, la Grand Prix-ul Marii Britanii, un motor turboalimentat de 1,5 l, in locul unuia cu aceeasi capacitate, dar supraalimentat. Majoritatea gruparilor britanice a argumentat ca versiunea turbo e sinonima cu un al doilea motor, deci ilegala. Discutia nu a fost luata in calcul de FIA, astfel ca motoarele turbo au fost la moda timp de un deceniu.
* 1978 – „Aspiratorul” Brabham. Gordon Murray, directorul tehnic al echipei patronate de Ecclestone, a conceput revolutionarul Brabham BT46, care in partea posterioara avea montat vertical un imens ventilator actionat de cutia de viteze. Rolul acestuia era de a aspira aerul de sub monopost, astfel incat masina statea „lipita” de pista. FIA a decis ca sistemul trebuie interzis.
* 1980 – sasiul dublu Lotus. in dorinta de a maximiza performantele aerodinamice ale ultimei sale masini de F 1, Colin Chapman – fondatorul Lotus – a creat un monopost cu sasiu dublu. Astfel, apasarea cauzata de vibratiile suspensiei rigide era izolata cu grija de incarcarea aerodinamica a masinii. FIA a aruncat o privire la aceasta inventie stralucita si a lansat una din celebrele ei „clarificari ale regulamentului”, o stratagema prin care se putea schimba legea.
* 1981 – Brabham, categoria usoara. Ecclestone a acceptat constructia unui monopost foarte usor, Brabham BT49, pentru Nelson Piquest, masina pe care brazilianul s-o foloseasca in calificarile din sezonul 1981. Caroseria era subtire, oarecum subreda, rezervorul foarte mic, totul pentru a scadea greutatea totala.
* 1984 – Tyrrell trisa la balast. Dupa ce Martin Brundle (Tyrrell) a incheiat pe locul secund Grand Prix-ul de Est al SUA, de la Detroit, urme ale unui anume avantaj au fost gasite in rezervorul masinii, pilotul fiind descalificat, manevra echipei fiind catalogata ca utilizare a unui aditiv ilegal pentru carburant. in realitate, FIA a luat decizia corecta pentru un motiv complet eronat. A fost un castig temporar prin utilizarea unui balast ilegal astfel incat masina sa indeplineasca greutatea minima. La ultima realimentare mecanicii nu faceau altceva decat sa introduca bile metalice o data cu benzina. Tyrrell a fost exclusa pentru tot restul sezonului 1984.
* 1994 – Scandalul controlului tractiunii. La inceputul sezonului, FIA a decis interzicerea oricarui sistem de control al tractiunii. Numai ca o verificare de rutina la monopostul Benetton B194, pilotat de Michael Schumacher, a dezvaluit ca echipa inca mai folosea un software in sistemul electronic.
* 1995 – Toyota, out din CM de raliuri. Spre finalul sezonului 1995 al CM de raliuri, modele Celica ale echipei Toyota au fost gasite cu restrictoare de aer de dimensiuni variabile, gandite pentru a permite absorbtia unei cantitati mai mari de aer in turbine, iar puterea dezvoltata de motor sa creasca. Toyota Team Europe a fost exclusa din Mondialul de raliuri pentru urmatorul sezon.
* 1999 – Ferrari si deflectoarele. Dupa finalul Grand prix-ului Malaysiei, cand monoposturile sale au incheiat pe primele doua locuri, Ferrari a fost descalificata, motivul fiind pozitionarea ilegala a deflectoarelor aerodinamice de pe monococa. Curtea de Apel a FIA a intors decizia comisarilor de cursa, justificand ca acestia nu au masurat corect piesele.
