Fenomen rar în California, cauzat de incendiile de vegetație: cer roșiatic-ruginiu deasupra orașelor californiene San Francisco, Oakland și Berkeley. CNN scrie că a plouat cu cenușă.
Opt oameni au murit şi aproximativ 3.300 de clădiri au fost distruse în ultimele trei săptămâni de incendiile din California. A fost decretată stare de dezastru major.
Chiar dacă focul încă arde la peste 200 de kilometri de San Francisco, acum, populația metropolei e speriată de efectele incendiilor.
“Parcă m-am trezit pe Marte. E înspăimântător, a declarat o locuitoare din San Francisco, pentru CNN. “Locuiesc în zona golfului din 1988 și nu am văzut niciodată o astfel de imagine”.
Când fumul și cenușa devin groase aproape de incendii, pot tăia complet lumina soarelui.Meteorologul CNN, Judson Jones:
Pentru a circula prin smogul portocaliu-roșiatic, șoferii din San Francisco au fost forțați să folosească farurile în plină zi. Iluminatul stradal a fost aprins toată ziua. Localnicii au stat și ei cu becurile aprinse în case și spun că nu au mai văzut niciodată orașul cu peste 8.000.000 de suflete în acest fel, informează CNN.
Norul de fum generat de incendiile de vegetație din California a condus la 25 de zile consecutive de alerte privind calitatea aerului, a declarat un oficial local, citat de CNN.
