Oxana Bondarciuk s-a născut în anul 1989 într-un orășel din Ucraina afectat de catastrofa nucleară de la Cernobâl. Fata a venit pe lume cu o dizabilitate gravă, având mâinile și picioarele deformate, fără degete și cu probleme grave la rinichi.
Fetița a fost abandonată de părinți într-un orfelinat, acolo unde a fost bătută și înfometată periodic. După ani de suferință, un înger sub chip de femeie avea să-i schimbe destinul.
Guy Masters din SUA a văzut mai multe fotografii cu Oxana și a hotărât să o adopte. Ea a venit în Ucraina când copilul avea 5 ani și a așteptat 2 ani pentru finalizarea procesului de înfiere.
Abia când a împlinit 8 ani, Oxana a ajuns în SUA să trăiască alături de noua sa familie. Guy a decis să facă tot posibilul să-i îmbunătățească viața micuței, așa că a dus-o la mulți medici specialiști. Aceștia au reușit să trateze rinichii fetei și să-i îndrepte mâinile, însă picioarele nu puteau fi salvate și au fost amputate.
Fata a învățat treptat să meargă în proteze, să meargă cu bicicleta, să se dea cu patinele cu rotile și să practice canotajul. În ani de muncă susținută de familie, Oxana a ajuns o legendă a jocurilor paralimpice.
La Jocurile Paralimpice din anul 2012 din Londra Oxana a câștigat două medalii de aur. Imediat după competiție, tânăra a fost remarcată de o revistă sportivă și i s-a propus să realizeze o ședință foto nud.
Ulterior, la Jocurile Paralimpice de iarnă din Sochi, ea a devenit campioană mondială la ski.
Povestea Oxanei a făcut înconjurul lumii, fata ajungând astăzi să fie un model de forță și ambiție pentru foarte multă lume.
